Voting in Colorado is as easy as 1… 2… 3…

How Elections Currently Work In Colorado

Colorado has a gold-standard election system that has propelled us to consistently have one of the highest voter turnouts in the nation.

Each voter gets one vote per race – it’s as simple as that.

In Colorado, all registered voters automatically receive their primary and general election ballots in the mail (make sure your address is updated here). From there, you have nearly two weeks to decide how you are going to vote and then turn your ballot in. For the general election, you will also get the Blue Book delivered to your mailbox. That tells you about the candidates and ballot initiatives on your ballot.

Turning your ballot in and casting your vote is as easy as:

  1. Mail it in – put two stamps on the envelope and put it back on your mailbox for the mail carrier to pick up.

  2. Drop it off – use Colorado’s safe and protected drop off boxes or centers to vote on your way to work, school, or the grocery store. You can find locations near you on this map.

  3. Vote in personcheck out the “VSPC” markers on this map and see where you can keep tradition alive and vote in person.

We recommend making a tradition of it with your family: pick a day to fill out your ballot and make a plan to turn it in. That way, you can make sure you don’t miss any important deadlines. A bonus – if you vote early, all of those phone calls, knocks on the door, and mailers stop (WHO you vote for is secret, but IF you vote or not is public).

If you want to make a plan, here are a few important dates to put in your calendar:

  • October 11 – Ballots are mailed out to voters, you should get your ballot in your mailbox at some point the week of the 14th (track your ballot here).

  • October 21 – Ballot drop off boxes open and voting in person begins at polling centers (learn more about this here).

  • October 28 – Last day to register to vote and still receive a ballot in the mail (register online, here). Eligible voters can still register up to, and on, Election Day if voting in person, see info below.

  • October 28 – Last advisable day to mail your ballot in, after this you should drop it off if you want to make sure it gets counted.

  • November 5 – Election Day! Today is the final day to cast your ballot and make your voice heard! Eligible voters (US citizen who has lived in Colorado for 22 days and has an ID from this list) can register to vote up to, and on, Election Day while voting in person. Did you know that as long as you are in line to vote by 7PM, you can still vote?
